Task 3-Finished

This is the finished video for Task 3.

An introduction to Task 3

Task 3 involves two characters again. This time one character is telling a lie to the other, the other character can either believe this or know that he's lying.

I am using this clip from the TV show Scrubs.

The clip involves a patient asking his doctor if there's anything wrong with his heart. The doctor optimistically reassures him despite knowing full well he's in trouble.

In the animation I'm going to remove his inner monologue, instead expressing the words "Oh my god he's gonna die" out loud when he thinks he's out of ear shot.

Despite not being a flat-out lie, I believe he is still giving his patient false hope.

Task 2B- Finished Animation.

Task 2B-Animatic

This is the Animatic for Task 2B.

Task 2A-Finished Storyboard

This is my storyboard for Task 2A, which involves creating a storyboard with two twin characters and two different endings.

The story involves two twin sisters, one of which has stolen a shirt from the other, the other who was looking for it, then confronts her.

Ending 1 shows Twin 2 pulling off the shirt before putting it on herself and leaving her sister topless.

Ending 2 shows the two having a scuffle before 1 unknown victor reaches up.

The scene only has 1 camera angle as I thought it would be interesting if the entire scene was from the POV of the mirror.

Task 2B-Storyboard

This is the Storyboard for Task 2B. An Animation based of the TV Show, Supernatural.

Introduction to Task 2.

Task 2 is split into two sub-tasks.

Task 2A involves creating a story involving two twin characters who both want the same object but have different approaches to getting it. This is in Storyboard format and must require two endings.

Task 2B is back to the finished animation process and again involves having two twin characters expressing different emotions to the same experience.

For Task 2B I am taking this scene from the TV show, Supernatural.

The scene involves the two characters both being tense at first about a strange sound coming from a locker, however when it opens, they have very different reactions to what's inside.

Task 1-Finished Animation

This is the finished animation for Task 1.

Task 1-Rough Draft/Animatic

This is the rough draft for my animation involving a cat version of Gordon Ramsay yelling at a little girl.

Task 1-Storyboard

This is the Storyboard for Task 1 which involves a Cat version of Gordon Ramsay yelling at a little girl.

The story follows the cat as it happily awaits it's dinner, only to be disappointed when he finds Raw Salmon. His disappointment turns to rage as he gets progressively sick of yelling at the little girl who provided him the food, eventually telling her to "fuck off" out of the kitchen

Introduction to Task 1

Task 1 involves two different characters who express different emotions and key these emotion changes.

I've decided to construct a 20 second audio using phrases of Gordon Ramsay from the TV show, Hell's Kitchen.

To differentiate a well-know celebrity like Gordon Ramsay, I've decided to place his voice onto an angry cat, and to add a shock value, I'm going to have him yell at a little girl.

Creating Characters.

The first step in making the Animations for these tasks is creating the characters. The goal of the module is to measure facial emotions and body language, which means the characters themselves don't need to be amazingly detailed, and I don't need to waste time designing picture perfect characters.

Another point is that the characters need to match with the audio that I find for the task.

Take this character that I designed during the summer for example.

The Character itself is designed around the Character, Lorelei Gilmore from the Tv Show, Gilmore Girls. Portrayed by Lauren Graham

While there is very cartoonish caricature traits included (Large Head, Tiny Body) I've based the main resemblance around the face, the stern eyes and nose with the cheeky smile.

Animation Analysis

Before we start producing animations. I wanted to analyse well-known animated sequences that show how different emotions and personalities can be expressed in Animation.

First off I'm looking at one of my favourite openings to an animated film. Pixar's Up.

For those new to this scene, it shows a Couple going through from their wedding day, through their adult years up to the Wife's (Ellie) death.

Ellie and Carl have very different personalities. Ellie, has a very outgoing and adventurous personality, while Carl is more timid. This means that Ellie is more likely to lead the relationship while Carl is more happy to follow. The opposites of their personalities is why they make such a great animated couple.

Another cartoon duo I wanted to analyse is the team of Mac and Bloo from the Cartoon Network series, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. In the scene above, Mac and Blow work together when Mac's bully big brother are terrorising them through the house. Mac tends to be more scared of his brother while Bloo is more happy to taunt him, because of this Bloo's personality overcomes Mac's and Mac does tend to adopt more of Bloo's mannerisms.

An Introduction to AND208

AND 208 is an Animated Performance Module. With the main point being to give us more experience in creating animations portraying characters in different situations and emotions.

There are 3 Tasks in this module to represent this:

Task 1 involves taking two characters and researching their phrasing through emotions.

Task 2A involves making a storyboard featuring two characters who both want the same object, and have different approaches in trying to get it

Task 2B involves taking two identical characters and placing them in a scene where they are faced with a situation, and have vary different emotions going through it

Task 3 involves two characters where 1 is obviously telling a lie.

All these tasks will involve taking a 10-20 second clip from Film/TV and creating original characters.
