Animation Analysis

Before we start producing animations. I wanted to analyse well-known animated sequences that show how different emotions and personalities can be expressed in Animation.

First off I'm looking at one of my favourite openings to an animated film. Pixar's Up.

For those new to this scene, it shows a Couple going through from their wedding day, through their adult years up to the Wife's (Ellie) death.

Ellie and Carl have very different personalities. Ellie, has a very outgoing and adventurous personality, while Carl is more timid. This means that Ellie is more likely to lead the relationship while Carl is more happy to follow. The opposites of their personalities is why they make such a great animated couple.

Another cartoon duo I wanted to analyse is the team of Mac and Bloo from the Cartoon Network series, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. In the scene above, Mac and Blow work together when Mac's bully big brother are terrorising them through the house. Mac tends to be more scared of his brother while Bloo is more happy to taunt him, because of this Bloo's personality overcomes Mac's and Mac does tend to adopt more of Bloo's mannerisms.
